Project Information
Brazil uses a total of 159 dams to generate energy from hydropower. A further 14 dams are planned. Construction of an even larger number is already underway; 37 dams planned to generate a total performance output of 6,909 megawatts. The scale of the “UHE Jirau” project (UHE stands for usina hidroelectrica, i.e. hydroelectric power plant) becomes clear when one realises that almost half of this additional output is meant to be realised by this single dam.
The location by the Rio Madeira was chosen because of the strong current (water throughput of 23,000m³ per second). The Rio Madeira is the largest tributary of the Amazon and runs for 1,238 km through Brazilian territory.
Products from MC have been used in the construction of the dam since works began in 2009. The contractor requested a PCE-based concrete admixture. Our solution: MC-PowerFlow.
Additional benefit through MC-PowerFlow:
The construction company gains a further advantage through this switch: a reduction in transport costs. MC-PowerFlow is much stronger in its effect and dosing is lower than with other admixtures.
